Types of Acids and Its Properties
Acid is a chemical substance that can be found in a lot of substances including food and drinks. Some acids are strong such as hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid and nitric, acid and some are weak such as formic acid, acetic acid, citric acid and ascorbic acid. Weak acids can be obtains from living things such as fruits. Formic acid occurs naturally in the stings and bites of ants and beetles. Acetic acid can be found in vinegar. Citric acid can be found in the juice of citrus fruits. Ascorbic acid is also knows as Vitamin C, commonly found in citrus fruits, vegetables and guava.
Acidic substances change the colour of wet blue litmus paper to red. Strong acids should be handle with extreme care because it is corrosive. It can burn skin and even wood.
       Acidic food taste sour. Milk turns sour if left at room temperature overnight. This is because, lactobacillus (a type of bacteria) formed the lactose in the milk and produces lactic acid. Lactic acid is used in preparing cheese, soft drinks and other food products. Some example of acidic food substances are tamarind, orange juice, most fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, tomato and spinach. 

Example of acidic substances are oranges, lime, vinegar and young mangoes.
